Welcomed by calls to prayer, rooftop roosters, and hundreds of explosions, the 3:30am chorus of fireworks detonated in narrow streets.

Thank you for incisive, elegantly written insights on nature and on human society. I often wish for a voice like yours here in South Florida, as we lobby local, state and federal government to protect the last tracts of our unique natural habitats:
