Haploa clymene. This species of moth is often active in the day. Its host plants include trees (oaks, willows) and various herbs (Eupatorium).

cool. appears to have evolved defensive mechanisms in an environment with a lot of vampire predation.
That would explain why this one was later seen carrying a very small oak stake.
